We recognised that we had a marketing requirement so we commissioned Vicky to fill that gap in 2016. After extensive industry research, she alerted us to market risks and presented a sound business case which confirmed we needed to rebrand. Vicky has involved the team and key clients in the whole rebranding project, from setting up focus groups to test our new company name, to facilitating and coaching our team to co-create our brand values. She designed our logo, website, company presentations and our brochure; not forgetting the organisation, PR and corporate hospitality of our successful launch event. Vicky has kept us in the loop and been conscientious throughout the process.

November 2016: Market research and marketing strategy
The Managing Director requested that I fully immerse myself into the world of Building Energy Management Systems, Smart Buildings, Automated Buildings to establish the current market position and develop a robust marketing strategy. The MD had mentioned that a rebrand might be on the cards and he wanted to know if this was the right decision and research confirmed it was the right decision for many reasons..
December 2016: Coach the BOSS team to establish brand values
The company AGM is in December and marketing featured high on the list. I designed a Prezi to show the team the plans for 2017 and beyond. To encourage employee engagement, using a traditional whiteboard and coaching techniques, we established what the BMS engineers felt set BOSS Controls apart. I then went away and developed these into brand values which have been embraced by the BOSS team.
January 2017: New website and brochure
Our marketing strategy scheduled the rebrand for 30th June, however, Carrob did not have a visible website or a corporate brochure, so we designed a website for Carrob Controls which could easily be evolved to Boss Controls with a simple logo change.
We completed the website and brochure copywriting from our market research; applying the benefit of Building Management Systems (BMS). Research showed that the UK’s productivity is lower than other developed countries and it has been proven that optimising BMS can help employees to become more engaged and work smarter, which is essential with Brexit.

March 2017: Test the Boss Concept
Between the senior management team and the BMS engineers, we created several name combinations to reposition the company. We created a poll and invited key customers and all employees to vote for their favourite name. Boss Controls was the outright winner; the BOSS initials stand for Building Optimisation System Solutions so there is a meaning to the name which is important for buy-in.
April 2017: Design and test the Boss logo
Now Boss Controls had won approval from customers and employees, we started designing the logo. The logo was to be used on the brochure, website, stationery, promotional merchandise, signage and such like, so it had to work in all size formats. We presented the Senior Management Team with several colour and shape combinations and the logo you see was the winner.
We also organised a photoshoot of Boss’s key clients in London which included The Hippodrome Casino, The Royal Exchange, The OXO Tower and many more. We organised printing and framing of the photos and they are now on display throughout the Boss Controls Office.
May 2017: Design the stationery and promotional merchandise
Once the new logo design was signed off, we set to work on the business cards and stationery. The business cards have been printed and velvet laminated with the Boss logo in Spot UV Varnish. We think it looks bold and punchy. What do you think?
Boss Controls has developed an innovative app which helps its BMS engineering team to be more effective in recording works completed and capturing customer sign-off. We are currently in the process of rebranding the app and also the stationery including email signatures.
June 2017: Organisation and management of the launch event
We wrote a pre-event press release to send to our press list and invited the Past Chairman of Horsham District Council to officially open Boss Controls. We organised the drinks, ribbon and the itinerary for the event.
After the event we followed up with a post event press release and followed up on contacts from the successful event.
July 2017 and beyond: Implementing the integrated marketing strategy
Now the hard work really begins! We will be continually updating the responsive website to improve it’s positioning in Google. With all integrated marketing strategies, we will be aligning the vision, mission and values across all channels including Facebook, LinkedIn and Social Media. We have facilitated training sessions to encourage employees to be pro-active on LinkedIn. Not forgetting talking to our clients in person to ensure we continue to exceed their expectations.
